Wrocław Sights

  1. Sand Island

    Sand Island is to the west of Cathedral Island (Ostrów Tumski) and is connected to Cathedral Island by the Cathedral Bridge (Most Tumski) and to the Old Town by the Sand Bridge (Most Piaskowy). The main monument here is the Church of Our Lady on the Sand, a lofty 14th-century building that dominates this tiny islet.

  2. Town Hall Complex

    The central Town Hall Complex is so large that it incorporates three internal streets. The main structure took almost two centuries (1327-1504) to complete, and work on the 66m-high tower and decoration continued for another century.

  3. University of Wrocław

    The main edifice of the University of Wrocław, built between 1728 and 1742, adjoins the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus. Enter through the grand blue and gold Rococo gate at the western end and go up to the 1st floor to see the Aula Leopoldinum.

  4. White Stork Synagogue

    The White Stork Synagogue, built in 1829, is a timely reminder that this city was once home to more than 20,000 Jews. Another reminder is the ul Łąckowa synagogue memorial. Formerly a synagogue built in 1872, it was the country's second largest until it was torched on Kristallnacht (9 November 1938).
