Pszczyna Sights

  1. Castle & Castle Museum

On the western side of the Old Town, Pszczyna's grandiose castle dates back to the 12th century, when the Opole dukes built a hunting lodge here, but the building has been enlarged and redesigned several times, most recently in 1870.

  2. Pszczyna Farm Village

A five-minute walk east of the Rynek is the small but interesting Pszczyna Farm Village, a small but interesting skansen with half a dozen 200-year-old timber houses - including a mill, smithy and barn - collected from the region.

  3. Rynek

The castle gives on to the elongated and leafy Rynek, lined with old burghers' houses dating mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries. On its northern side is the Protestant church and, next to it at No 2, the town hall, both remodelled early this century. Behind the town hall is the 14th-century parish church, extensively rebuilt over the years, with a typically lavish interior featuring a ceiling painting of the Ascension.

  4. Tyskie Browary Książęce

The town of Tychy, some 20km north of Pszczyna, 16km south of Katowice and on the same train line, has been famous for its beer for four centuries, and a tour of the Tyskie Browary Książęce is well worth a stopover. The tours last about 2½ hours and include a visit to the Tychy Brewing Museum (Tyskie Museum Piwowarstwa) and, of course, a beer tasting in the pub. They are free and conducted in six languages, including English, but you should book in advance by phone or email.
