Exquisite taste and attentive care has gone into this lovely little guest house. It is decorated with period furnishings and rich colours that are appropriate to the early 19th-century townhouse, but also comfortable for the contemporary traveller.
The Karmel is set on a tiny street in Kazimierz, away from the buzz of ul Szeroka, but surrounded by prewar architecture evoking the peak period of this vibrant Jewish district. In fact, as you enter the building, you will notice the elegant arched ceilings and the amazing brickwork in the foyer. The pension is on the second floor, where 10 spacious rooms line a long hallway. Because the Karmel is so small, it exudes the atmosphere of a B&B, thanks especially to the welcoming reception and personal service. Breakfast (which is included in the price) is served downstairs at the slick ristorante Pepe Rosso, but you may want to come back for dinner. The understated, contemporary decor provides a striking contrast to the large menu of traditional Italian and Polish favourites, which receive rave reviews.
