Lonely Planet review

The Hotel Europejski has been welcoming guests for more than a century, ever since Jan Kazimierz Lubicz Lapiński founded this atmospheric institution in 1882. These days, it is still a classic and convenient accommodation option, now under the management of the esteemed founder's grandson.

Standard rooms retain the kitschy charm of the 19th century, with lots of lace and velvet. The upgraded rooms (standard plus, superior standard plus, super duper superior standard plus, etc) resemble something out of a Holiday Inn Express: an increase in comfort, perhaps, but a decrease in character. Somebody at the Europejski seems to be blessed with a green thumb. The building's 19th-century facade is adorned with blooming flower boxes, while the lobby is a veritable greenhouse, overflowing with ferns and bushes. In warmer months, the summer garden is also busting with blooming flowers and flowing fountains. While the location near the station is convenient for train travellers, ongoing construction at this intersection makes the Europejski feel isolated from the action in the Old Town. You may wish to inquire about the status of the street work before booking.
