Getting there & away
Normal buses and urban bus 17 from Puławy (3.20zł, 40 minutes, every half-hour) drop you off at the Rynek. From there walk uphill from the distinct pink parish and follow the discourteously small blue sign to the unpaved path to the castle.
You can visit Janowiec from Kazimierz Dolny by pleasure boat or ferry (0602 858898; tickets 3zł; 8am-8pm Mon-Fri, 8am-9pm Sat & Sun), which takes five minutes. From the ferry on the Janowiec side, the most straightforward way to the castle is to walk the flat 2.5km to Rynek. Returning to the ferry, you can follow the small trodden path (in front of you, to the right as you leave the castle) along the ridge of the park, walking towards the Vistula. When you reach the perplexing fork in the path (near a middle-of-nowhere restaurant), make your way down the steep rocks, where a rope has been tethered to assist your descent. If you’re not game for this, return to the Rynek and take the main road to the Vistula (follow the signs to the ‘Prom’).
