Getting there & away




The bus terminal (034 379 11 4950; www.pks-czestochowa.pl; information counter 7am-8pm) is close to the central train station and serves many towns in the region including Jędrzejów (10.50zł, two hours) and Opole (11.50zł, two hours).

From Kraków (133km away), there are many buses to Częstochowa (15.20zł, three hours, eight per day, between 6.30am and 9.20pm. Alternatively, there is the faster Polski Express bus (20zł, two hours, three daily), which also heads from Częstochowa to Warsaw (50zł, three hours, one daily).

Buses leave for Kielce (21zł, three hours) at 11.45am, 3.20pm and 5.55pm.


The train station (Al Wolności) handles half a dozen daily fast trains to Warsaw (38zł, 3½ hours) and about the same number to Kraków (31zł, two hours).

There are five trains per day to Kielce (17zł, two hours 20 minutes) between 6.45am and 6.45pm.

Trains to Katowice (14zł to 17zł, 1½ hours) run every hour or so between 3am and 9pm, from where there are connections to Kraków and Wrocław. To Zakopane, there are only a few trains in the inconvenient wee hours (27zł, seven hours, between 1am and 4am).
