Tropical Depression 23W (SENIANG) has maintained its strength as it moves slowly over the southwestern part of the South Philippine Sea just to the east of Surigao del Sur. 23W (SENIANG) is expected to directly affect most parts of Visayas and Mindanao including Palawan this coming week.

Weather in Puerto Galera

Hi all. I intend to spend next week in PG and on Pandan Island for diving. I am concerned though looking at the weather reports. Does anyone know if it really is so rainy and cold and if this could affect diving? Many thanks!

NAIA closed during arrival and departure of Pope Francis (15th and 19th January)

Well,

it is all over the media, that airlines have reached an agreement with NAIA Manager (or equivalent) to cancel any operations during the hours before and after of Pope's Francisco arrival (Jan 15th) and departure (Jan 19th).

It will affect more or less 40.000 people.

Now the more shocking news: Airlines are still selling tickets for those days and the affected hours !!

I am one of the affected ones, and PAL said they know nothing and that my flight is confirmed... Same happens with…

isolation of Camiguin continues

First there was the opening of the new North Mindanao airport which at a stroke placed Camiguin 2 hours further away for the Manila weejenders.

This happened after the totally unreliable Catamaran service from CDO finally breathed its last.

Then, both the Ocean Jet and Super Shittle services to Jagna went, isolating Camiguin from Bohol.

Now the weekly Super Shittle ferry from Cebu has gone, meaning that the Balbagon port near Mambajao is not being used at all by any ferry.

This means the…

variability of ferries in the Philippines

Last week I got a Trans Asia night ferry from Tagbilaran to CDO and it was garbage, no tables and chairs outside, no videoke freezing aircon and a crap bunk.

Last night though I got the Trans Asia 9 from CDO to Cebu and it was much better. The restaurant actually had WAITER SERVICE which I don't think you get even on cross-channel ferries. The aircon was not murder in tourist, the bunk was really comfortable and spacious, had a really bright light and an individual power point to charge phone…

10 days in Philippines

We are thinking ahead and may be visiting the Philippines at the end of next year. I'm trying to identify the main areas we're traveling to so we can come up with a budget and start saving!

We may only have 10 days there and want to plan a trip that gives us a good sense of the country, but also isn't overdoing it. My boyfriend wants to dive (and I plan to get certified next year so I can also dive). We generally enjoy hiking, being outdoors and exploring new cities and we don't like to sit…

Its strange how one day you can be having the best time of your life, then the next day the absolute worst day anyone could ever expect to experience. 25th of December 2004 I was enjoying what I know now was an incredible time. I was working as a Diving Instructor on Phi Phi Island in Thailand. Every day I would wake up very early and walk along the beach to the Visa Diveshop. Spend the day guiding people around some absolutely awesome dive sites. How could it get much better? Christmas night we…

Help with 4 Week Trip

First time to the Philippines. I will be there for about 4 weeks. I like beautiful beaches but not interested in spending days just laying around on them. Not into diving but some snorkeling. I like history and nature (trekking, etc). Not interested in partying. Restaurants or shopping are not on top of my list. I travel backpacker (budget) style but have extra money to use if needed.

The only firm things I have so far is the round trip flight to Manila. All the rest is just in the planning…
