One of Southeast Asia’s biggest and most energetic cities, Manila is also famous for its nightlife. You name it, it’s there. From the bongo-infused hipster hang-outs of Quezon City, to Malate’s live-music bars, to the chichi nightclubs of Makati and the new Resorts World, action beckons at all hours. The best nightlife is up in Makati or in the new Resorts World complex in Parañaque. Malate remains the epicentre of Manila’s gay nightlife – the corner of J Nakpil and M Orosa Sts is ground zero, with the action spilling out into the streets until the wee hours on weekends and sometimes on weekdays. There are a few trendy uni clubs and lounges behind the street bars of the Monoblock Republic (aka Remedios St). Cover charges vary from nothing to as much as P500 or more at the prime hotspots.
