Other restaurants in Manila

  1. Grilla Bar & Grill

Grilla is conveniently located in Makati. It’s a fine place to sample Pinoy specialities like sizzling gambas (shrimp) and crispy pata (pork leg) and drink San Miguel by the bucketful.

  2. Filling Station

Not even in the American heartland itself could there be a diner with as much 1950s pop-culture paraphernalia as you’ll find stuffed inside this P Burgos landmark – everything from life-sized superhero statues to vintage motorcycles. The cheeseburgers and milkshakes aren’t the world’s best, but you’ll be too busy gawking at the unbelievable interior to notice.

  3. Pier One

Manila is awash in quintessentially Filipino ‘restobars’, which serve classic Filipino favourites and buckets of beer. The Pier One in the Fort has the best atmosphere of them all, with outdoor and indoor seating and plenty of camaraderie. There are a few additional branches, including one on Roxas Blvd near the corner of Buendia Ave.

  4. Mickey’s

With his meister-level butcher qualification certificate on the wall behind him, the owner of this authentic German deli/restaurant doles out Nürmberger, bratwurst and other German sausages along with sides of warm potato salad and sauerkraut.

  5. Queens

For a city with a large Indian population, Manila is sadly lacking in world-class Indian food. Queens is probably the best of the lot, although the decor is questionable. Nonstop Bollywood flicks on the small screen rescue the atmosphere somewhat.

  6. Mogwai

This painfully hip Cubao X favourite is a restaurant, bar and indie-cinema screening room rolled into one. The American grub is excellent, but the alternative scene is the real reason to show up. Look for the old-school marquee sign.

Dreamt up by the Department of Tourism, visitors to this travel-themed lifestyle cafe can enjoy a traditional Filipino meal before purchasing coffee from North Luzon, Filipino CDs, handicrafts, guidebooks and more.

A dependable expat fave hidden in Makati residential district Salcedo Village, it’s known for eclectic continental cuisine and hangover-slaying breakfasts such as croque madame and steak ‘n’ eggs.

  9. Hap Chang Tea House

Delicious, steaming platters of Hong Kong specialities are the name of the game here. It’s popular for a reason. An additional branch is on Pedro Gil St across from Robinsons Place.

  10. MXT Tea House

This Chinese tea shop is probably best known for its superb and very affordable dim sum. Cold noodle soups and steamed dumplings are also big hits.
