Lonely Planet review for Shawarma Snack Center

It doesn’t sound like much, but this open-air Middle Eastern place serves the richest and most flavourful felafel, matabal, hummus, and kabobs for kilometres around. In the branch across the street is more upscale dining in air-conditioned comfort.

    ShawarMmmma!

    raenie recommends this,

There was a time in Manila when shawarma was all the rage, that a TV noontime show even had a Shawarma mascot! Stalls selling these Middle-Eastern sandwiches sprouted up like mushrooms, and the variations were just as wide-ranged: from spicy, to salty, to cheesy, to sweet, to garlicky, to more garlicky and of course, to vampire-repellant-garlicky.

Needless to say, only the restaurants serving good authentic shawarma survived. Shawarma Snack Center or SSC proved to be one. They not only serve these well-beloved sandwiches, but also a diverse Middle-eastern menu--hummus, ox brain--(which I have yet to have the guts to try!), Qurma beef, kebabs, Tikka, and they even have those Shesha water pipes with fruit flavored tobacco.

Going back to their shawarma, which is its namesake after all--I have to say that it's one of the best shawarmas out there. My sister's in-laws even go as far as saying that it's the best in the Philippines. I do think that one of the highlights of the shawarma is the SAUCE. That heavenly white garlic sauce that I never could replicate, as much as I try. SSC's white garlic and hot sauce are just delicious--the hot sauce not too spicy, the white sauce not too oily and garlicky that people wouldn't know what I ate for lunch. As long as you keep two feet away from me. . .And if you eat there, the sauce is free-flowing--yes! My 3-year old nephew enjoyed squeezing the life out of that sauce bottle, and ate his shawarma with gusto.

So whenever that shawarma hunger pang hits me, SSC is definitely on the top of my list.

    Simple
    Homey
    Authentic
    Winning
    Affordable
    Robust
Mouth-watering food that you'll crave for
    Again and again :)

hmmm... did I mention I love their shawarmas?
