This spectacularly designed resort is sited on a 3.5-hectare artificial saltwater lagoon, big enough to house living coral ponds, waterfalls, beaches and a floating restaurant. You'll need to make use of the hotel's 24-hour golf-cart service to get around the vast grounds, where the activity options range from fishing to volleyball to archery lessons.
Words almost fail to describe this extravagant fusion of Disneyland and a Miami retirement village. Pick up a map of the resort at the reception area - you're going to need it to find your way around all the man-made lagoons, mountains and waterfalls. If you don't feel like walking, hail one of the roving taxis. The residential buildings have theatrical names like 'Xanadu Lodge' and 'Valhalla Hall', and all rooms have cool stone floors with stylish bathrooms made of polished Mactan stone - some with Japanese baths. The more expensive rooms have curtained-off beds, wooden venetians and repro antique furniture with inlaid mother-of pearl in the TV cabinets. There are four onsite restaurants with plenty of vegetarian options. Plantation is a great place to bring children and is the logical choice for those with bigger budgets and little time to spare.
