Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge
Lonely Planet review
Now run by Orient Express, this exclusive hotel has one feature no one else can match: location. It’s the only place to stay at Machu Picchu, though the advantage is not so great, since buses start running early to the ruins and the early closing time means no one will get that cherished sunset photo.
As would be expected, staff attention is impeccable and rooms are comfortable, with sober decor, docking stations and eat-in options. There is also a spa, manicured gardens and personalized guide service for the ruins. It’s often full, so book at least three months ahead. Two restaurants serve meals, and a popular lunch buffet is open to the public and includes non-alcoholic drinks.
Our independent authors have visited Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge and selected this as one of our recommended hotels in Machu Picchu.
