I've rented an SUV and I'm headed out from Lima to Huaraz tomorrow morning. I'm looking for suggestions on driving routes. I'd be happy to take a longer route and make it an overnight trip if there's something spectacular, but most of the posts I've found discuss fly vs bus this route, and not so much on driving information.
Thanks.

Has anyone here been to the Tabacones Namballe Sanctuary in extreme north Peru, very close to the Ecuadorian border at Nambale? We are traveling there in September and are talking to folks about the possibility of 2-3 day horse-trip and trekking excursion there. This is very off the beaten path, bu I thought I'd throw it out here. Happy travels, all!

February in Peru is the summer. A time in the mountains for rain, rain and more rain, cloudy skies and more rain. The inca trail to machu picchu is closed. This last february even some lodges in manu closed up.

February is great for places in Peru like the Pacific coast, beaches, and even the jungle areas around iquitos.

Winter in peru is best for visiting machu picchu and other mountain destinations, the temperature is not that much different than in the summer.

Hola,

Plan to be in Peru for six weeks. Would rather not haul trekking poles around, but would like to have them for Salkantay and other hiking options near Cusco. Are they available to rent in Cusco?

Has anyone done much hiking in Cotahuosi? We are finalizing the details for a trek this fall (8D/7N) and debating if to do the entire trek on foot or whether to do part of the trek by saddle animal.

The first day is spent exploring around Cotahuosi Village, the next two days are long days treking to reach a large archaeological site on the canyon floor (traveling up to 11 hour each day at elevations up to around 14,000 ft), the next two days are spent hiking the ruins, then another two days…

Has anyone traveled to Abra Patricia Reserve from Moyobamba, Peru? Does anyone know whether it is possible to get to the reserve by taxi, combi or bus and hire a guide there or at Owlet Lodge just for the day for birding? The Lodge is too expensive for us, but we'd like to spend the day at the reserve exploring. Either taking a tour from Moyobamba or getting to the reserve ourselves would be fine but just want to spend the day there.

I am planing to see the Nazca Lines in the beginning of August. From what I read it is the cheapest to go the local airport and by the tickets directly there. I thought flights only go from Nazca but then I saw some reviews saying that they flew from the airport in Pisco and Ica. So is it also possible to buy tickets at those airports last-minute? And if yes, is the price the same? The cheapest i read was 65$ pp at the Nazca airport.
