I am travelling to miraflores, lima for business and want to know how secure is the city. I have heard that there are regular cases of robbery with visitors. Also, how are the natives and places to visit?
we're planning to go trekking in the Cordillera Huayhuash in june. Due to the length and elevation of the trek, we'd like to hire an arriero and donkeys, but we do fine without a guide.
However, I'm not so sure and seeking for experience from others who have been there, about the following:
Some friends and I are planning to do the Santa Cruz loop but want to do it in December. I know a lot of people say that the best time to go is May through September but I am wondering if anyone has any experience doing it in late December/early January. Is the weather an issue and what were your experiences? Also, do you really need a guide at all? I did Torres del Paine and Iceland Laugavegur trek without one so I am thinking not but wasn't sure about access to water, etc. Thanks!
Has anyone got any comments as to the best direction in which to take this trek, from the point of view of difficulty. altitude gain (should really be properly acclimatised first, but even so), possibly transport, scenery or any other considerations? Hoping to do either this trek or (ideally) Santa Cruz/Ulta Valley trek, starting around 5th May, all being well. There are currently 3 people interested, in anyone wants to join us. Thanks in advance.
My partner and I are aiming to trek one of the lares routes (instead of the inca trail) around mid May (2015). I have searched loads of blogs and reviews but cannot find any information on how to track the lares with out a guide/agency (we are on a budget). We have done quite a bit of hiking before and will have our own tents etc.
I was wondering if someone has walked lares without a guide and had any advice? (especially practical information such as were to start, how to get hold…
We are headed there in two weeks, bringing our own gear and camping/trekking savy experience.
What is the cost however? I know you don't necessarily need a guide, and at the price points I have seen I couldn't afford one. Is there any others who have experienced these ruins on their own or with some local knowledgeable fellow travelers? Any tid bits of info will be usefull.
