Cross Keys
Cross Keys is the most established watering hole in town, housed in a rickety old building on the plaza and smothered in the trappings of a typically British pub. There's cable TV, a dartboard and the most challenging pool table in town - its banana-like trajectory is as yet unparalleled.

El Muki
Just off the plaza, El Muki is a dark, intimate club with plenty of barely lit alcoves and a couples-only rule at the door (though they rarely count when a group goes in).
-
Fallen Angel
An ultrafunky restaurant and lounge falling all over itself in the rush to cram in as much kitsch as possible, with glitterballs, fake fur and even bathtub-cum-aquarium tables complete with live goldfish. Devilish cocktails are expensive, but creative. The same folks also own jungle-themed Macondo (22 9415) at Cuesta San Blas 571.

Mama Africa
Mama Africa is the classic backpackers' hang-out, usually packed with people sprawled across cushions or swaying to rock and reggae rhythms. Unfortunately it also has a bad reputation as a haven for pickpockets, scam artists and other evildoers.

Norton Rat's Tavern
Run by a motorcycle enthusiast, this down-to-earth bar overlooking the Plaza de Armas has the best damn burgers in town. They've also got TVs, darts and billiards to help you work up a thirst. Happy hour is from to nightly.
-
Paddy Flaherty's
This cramped little Irish pub is filled with high stools, games, TVs and a laughably big foam leprechaun. It's usually packed to the gills with homesick European travelers.
-
Rosie O'Grady's
Rosie's is another spot for a Guinness that's got more room to breathe than its smaller compatriot Paddy's - in fact, it's usually bereft of any customers at all.
