Amazon Basin

Entertainment in Amazon Basin

  1. A

    Nikoro

A chic bar that goes through spates of being really popular or really dead. If it’s lively, there’s nowhere better for a beer to watch sunset on the river. Go down the left-hand set of steps from Pevas to get there.

  2. La Choza del Candamo

Outside of town, this relaxed peña (bar/club featuring live folkloric music) has a restaurant where you can sample food from all three regions of Peru – coast, mountain and jungle – and listen to the latest live musical offerings. You’ll find it 4km along the airport road.

    Agricobank

For dancing, the most locally popular venue is this, a huge outdoor place where hundreds of locals gather for drinking, dancing and socializing. It’s only open at weekends.

  4. Cachigaga

A few half-decent bars can be found along Inmaculada on the endearingly named ‘pizza strip, ’ of which Cachigaga seems the liveliest.

Locally popular lively bar with two floors and an extensive range of aphrodisiac cocktails concocted from wondrous Amazon plants.

  6. Discoteca Witite

Brightly painted Witite has stood the test of time. The crowd is mixed and at weekends the partying here goes on all night.

  7. D

    Noa Noa Disco-Pub

Upscale; a very trendy disco with salsa rhythms predominating. If gringos go out dancing, it’s usually here.

Hosts live Peruvian music on most nights and has a well-stocked bar with local drinks, as well as a cafe.

  9. Tsaica

With funky indigenous art on the walls, this is Puerto’s liveliest bar. Recommended.
