Lonely Planet review
Kiburu, the province’s only tourist-quality hotel, is a few kilometres south of town on the Highlands Hwy, just beyond the turn-off into Mendi. It has six chalets with 12 self-contained rooms in a quasi-traditional style set in pleasant grounds surrounding a large, hand-dug, waterlily-filled pond. The bunkrooms with shared bathrooms aren’t in the same league, but share the same pleasant gardens and octagonal restaurant (mains K35 to K45) with its pot-bellied stove. The staff can contact Eric Pape, who guides trips to see local avian fauna and nearby caves.
Our independent authors have visited Kiburu Lodge and selected this as one of our recommended hotels in Mendi.
