Hello, we are two backpacker and want also to stay 3-4 days in and around Madang mid September.
Can someone recommend a nice place to stay also good for snorkeling (budget)?
How can we find a homestay at one of the islands around Madang for 1-2 nights? We read it should be possible in the LP.
For all further good tips also PMV to Mount Wilhelm, safety would be nice to know.
Thanks all

Money and Food

I had never been in Papua New Guinea before and for what I can read here at the forum is a very different experience than anywhere else. A friend of mine was in PNG many years ago and he also mentioned it was a totally different experience, so I am sorry if my questions are stuped.

-I was looking in the lp printed guide about the money thing and there is ATM´s in the expensive hotels at Port Moresby and aparently one in Goroka etc. Anyway I am attending the Goroka show. I arrive to Port Moresby…

Hey all

I think this sounds a little nuts (I assume so because I couldn't find any other posts around it) but what are some thoughts around traveling PNG while pregnant? My husband and I have 3 weeks off in November and are looking for a last hurrah before baby. I'll be in my second trimester so should be feeling pretty ok. I'm mostly worried about mosquitos as the raining season will be starting and I don't want to take anti-malaria nor do I want to get malaria (tried that, it was terrible)…

After having traveled around PNG for more than 3 weeks (my first visit), I would like to share some practical observations/experiences about travel in this great country, and answer some questions you might have before going.

Cost
Is the country expensive? It is certainly not a budget destination, but at the same time, not as expensive as some other travelers have reported here on TT. Much of your expenses are determined by how much comfort you want. Accommodation is certainly not cheap: I paid…

We will be in Vanimo for the night of the 27/09 and I'm looking at accomodation alternatives to Sandaun Surf Motel and Vanimo Beach Hotel as they both sound grim and expensive. I've found a French 2016 travel guide which mentions 2 places called Silung Beach Resort Lodge and Varmoneh Sea Resort, both in Vanimo. But haven't come across them in any of my research. Is there anyone out there who's heard of them or stayed there? Any opinions would be appreciated.
