Lonely Planet review for Gasthaus Bavaria
Hands down the best German restaurant in the capital, Gasthaus Bavaria serves up all of your favorite dishes from the motherland, as well as enough traditional beers to inspire your own mini-Oktoberfest any time of the year. Although you're welcome to try anything on the menu, the favorite is the Jaeger Schnitzel, a breaded sausage with a mushroom cream sauce - definitely not for the weak of heart.
Of course, even if you were foolish enough to leave your appetite behind, don't pass up the complimentary cheesy puffs served alongside pints of rich, fragrant Warstheiner beer.

Not what you might expect
jillyjuan does not recommend this,
We turned up at Gasthaus Bavaria hoping for an Oktoberfest atmosphere, some hearty food, and a refreshing pilsner after a hard day of bird watching in the rainforest. Boy were we surprised! The place was virtually deserted, the bartender would not look us in the eye and did everything she could to ignore us, and the menu was a bar menu with about 8 items on it, such as "German Buffalo chicken wings" and deep fried yucca. We were told there was no other food there. You might think we misunderstood, but as my husband speaks fluent Spanish (he's from Guatemala) that's not the case. Oh well, at least the beer was tasty and cold! So we headed out to Madame Chang's for some tasty Peking Duck.
