Judging from the cookie cutter ambience and mostly tour group clientele, this hotel in the Carlson chain would probably be more at home in Panama City, Florida than Central America. And yet, it has one of the most spectacular locations of any of the city's hotels, making it worth consideration.
In spite of (or perhaps because of?) its generic American chain hotel feel, this place sometimes reaches 100% capacity, so you may be sharing public spaces with nametag-wearing matrons from the midwest, but relax. Take in the unparalleled vistas of the Bahía de Panamá and Puente de las Américas from the pool/jacuzzi or avoid the hoi polloi entirely and enjoy the views from your private balcony (all rooms have balconies, but it's worth paying the extra for bay and bridge views to avoid gazing out on the parking lot). This is a good choice for families as there is a playground, kiddie pool, in-room Nintendo, lots of other children about and kid-friendly food. Athletic types will appreciate the tennis courts, gym and spa. Perks like free daily newspapers, coffee, biscuits and fruit all day, in-room high speed Internet access and wi-fi in common areas add to the value.
