The Road to Veraguas Province
Heading to Veraguas Province there are a number of interesting attractions to check out along the way, particularly if you have your own wheels. About 25km east of David, on the northern side of the Interamericana, the enormous Meseta Chorcha (Chorcha Plateau) beguiles photographers.
This long black-sand beach 25km southwest of David is a popular weekend escape, though it remains quiet during the week. Some 14km of the eastern beach falls under the jurisdiction of the Refugio de Vida Silvestre Playa Barqueta Agricola, whose mangrove and scrub offer protection to four species of turtles.
Golfo de Chiriquí
The gem of the Chiriquí lowlands is the Golfo de Chiriquí, home to the Parque Nacional Marino Golfo de Chiriquí, a national marine park with an area of just over 147 sq km, protecting 25 islands, 19 coral reefs and abundant wildlife. The marine park also protects the 30-sq-km Isla Boca Brava, a lovely little island with hiking trails and beautiful outer beaches.
