Lonely Planet review for El Sabrosón

This much-loved local institution cooks up cheap and filling Panamanian cuisine served cafeteria style. Although Boquete is rapidly being colonized by gringo-friendly boutique eateries, this is one local institution that stays true to its roots.

    Good local fare with a variety of choices

    Boquete's restaurants mostly fall into 2 groups: inexpensive Panamanian places and upscale restaurants that appeal more to tourists and ex-pats. This is one of the 1st group. The food is good, and they have a variety of dishes. I wish they had a bigger selection of vegetables at the meals, but that apparently is not what the local population buys at restaurants.

    This is a self service cafeteria style restaurant with at least 10 different offerings every day. A meal with freshly squeezed fruit juice is under $3.
