Best beach to stay at in Bocas del Toro?

Hi all,

I´m in Bocas del Toro, staying in town for tonight, but I want to go out to one of the beaches and hopefully spend a couple of nights. My question is what is the best beach to stay at overnight? I´m looking for a fairly cheap hostel with good backpacker vibe - chill or party, just want to meet people.

Many thanks for any tips, also suggestions for best beaches for a day trip.

Christmas in Panama City!

Please help. Can't seem to find a lot of information for Christmas day in Panama City. Will have an 8 hour layover and just had my tour canceled for the day... What is open and what can I do during this time? Hoping to get a few good ideas, and hopefully, an english speaking taxi driver recommendation for a semi-guide... Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Santa Catalina - for surfers only?

Hello thorntreeistas,
Thinking hard about 5 - 7 days in Santa Catalina in late January or February, taking it easy: a little hiking, some swimming, a lot of lying on the beach, but not at all up for surfing. Also, we're a lot older than most guests there would be. Would this put us so far out of the prevailing vibe there as to feel somewhat marginalized? If so, can anyone suggest any small town out-of-the-way alternative on either coast of Panamax?
Thank you

Panama City report, from early Dec 2014 visit

1) The Miraflores Locks Visitor Center, praised in guidebooks, has some drawbacks now. The restaurant has shut down. There are some coin-operated machines but the one for snacks is broken. The machine for bottled drinks is still working. Come with your own food if you want to spent time here. In an hourly cycle, in English and Spanish in turn, a film about building the Canal is shown in an auditorium, but it is only 15 minutes long and is skimpy in details. Moreover, the main floor’s…

Crossing into Colombia

In early February my guy and I will be in Panama. One of our goals is to traverse into Colombia via Kuna waters. I've found the outfit San Blas Adventures makes this trip to the border. My question is if anyone here has used them or has heard accounts of others having experience and details such as how regular are the trips, how well the passengers are serviced and problems with refund of deposits in case of cancellation.

NYE in Bocas del Toro or Panama City?

Me and a friend have a few weeks in Panama over NYE and was wondering what the better place to spend NYE would be? I presume there will be parties in both locations? Where would you spend it? Any advice would be great!

Veggie restaurants?

Hi, there's a veg&vegan cafe in Pedasi now---finally. It's called Alma Verde & is next to the Western Union office. Really fresh with organic stuff from Boquete.

Any other places like that in Azuero, in Chitre, Las Tablas, Canas, Playa Venao...?

I've noticed the veg options even in Panamá City decreasing ....and we can't all live/travel in Chiriqui .

Routing chilled style

Hi to you all

My girlfriend and I shall be heading to Panama this northern hemisphere winter for a little over three weeks; we travel slow, prefer to feel than just see, have little in the way of Spanish and are flexible in terms of travelling style. At present the following is planned:

9 January through 15 January: in Panama City to include the canal on a full daytrip (girlfriend does not arrive until 12 January eve - hence the reason for staying so long in the city)

15 January fly to Bocas…
