This is an amiable place that will serve as fully functional headquarters for anyone wishing to explore mysterious Babeldaob island. Old-fashioned character is the score and it's done quite well.

Standout features are the rich mahogany floors, a grand lobby decorated with the island's largest storyboard carving, a balcony restaurant, and a piano bar. The standard rooms are plain yet elegant, with two double beds and wooden furniture; the deluxe rooms are pretty good value and have huge balconies looking across the jungle towards the ocean. The hotel is really geared towards Taiwanese tourists but is welcoming to anyone. You should take note of the charming promotional material: 'Airai View Hotel is located in the best eyesight of Airai state in Palau,' it boasts. 'You can enjoy the passion of tropics and limpid seawater with the wiggly coco and visit the secret island'. Now, who among us can resist wiggly coco?
