  1. PNG Diabetic Centre

Laugh all your want, but PNG Diabetic Centre is a treasure trove for artefact-hunters, with masks, necklaces, shells, carvings and other souvenirs aplenty. It's run by Paul Schwartz, who also works as a 'diabetes counciller', policeman and, should you need to boost your morale, a psychotherapist.

    Done Art & Design

Ken Done is like George Michael – he peaked in the ’80s but he just won’t go away. His optimistic, colourful images of Sydney icons are primed for the tourist market: they’re emblazoned on everything from T-shirts to handbags. Strewth Ken, not another Opera House mouse pad… For more, check out his nearby gallery.

Part of the Outback Centre, this excellent gallery features a mix of collectible and emerging Aboriginal artists, meaning you might find a small canvas for around A$140 or a large piece by a well-known artist for up to around A$130. King Solomon's Handicraft

Honiara is a good place to pick up souvenirs. Why not bring back a nicely carved nguzu nguzu (no, it's not a penis gourd) for jealous friends at home? There are a few prominent stores with better-than-average crafts on or around the main drag, including King Solomon's Handicraft.
