    Penny Arcade

    This unusual concept store from well-known Sydney designer Michael Bracewell brings together his own label and vintage women's clothes he's sourced from Paris and London. It then adds to the mix a funky collection of retro furniture, particularly sought-after Danish and Australian pieces. You'll find straight-up Bracewell stores at Westfield Bondi Junction and 274 Oxford St, Paddington, and a factory outlet in Market City .

    Hailwood

    Ladies and gentlemen no longer have to pick through other boutiques' racks looking for local designer Adrian Hailwood's smart and playful pieces; they're all consolidated here in his own-label store. (Even he's here, working out the back.) Expect his and hers shirts and jumpers made from divine silk or velvet fabrics with a juvenile-retro woodland print, or classic '50s cuts in Western fabrics.

    Little Brother

    One for the fellows, Little Brother stocks its own line of street-smart streetwear that's understated tucked-and-tailored. Designs are consciously created and made in NZ. Also in store, look for T-shirts emblazoned by iconic music label Flying Nun, and miniature Little Brother pieces for boys (aged one to eight) under the Little Shit label.

    Italian-born Nicola Finetti has been creating beautiful women's clothes in Sydney for around 20 years, offering elegant and feminine designs with a fashionable edge that never wander into the outlandish. Embroidered details, luxe fabrics and smart cutting all come together beautifully in the casual-to-eveningwear collection.

    A magical Pandora's Box of vintage beads and unique local women's fashion awaits in this backstreet boutique. Everything's produced locally in Surry Hills and you needn't worry about some scrag showing up in the same frock; only a handful of each design is produced. Lead designer Lisa Stack hand makes her own silk screens.
