Bats About Melbourne
See and hear the city's significant colony of grey-headed flying foxes wake up and take flight for the night. Clamber aboard the Batty Bus (they're not strictly bats, but Grey-headed-flying-fox Bus doesn't have quite the same ring to it) for a trip to Yarra Bend Park where around 20,000 animals do what they've been doing on this continent for over two million years.
Guide, Lawrence Pope, is a committed conservationist and knows all there is to know about the colony. The tour departs from St Paul's Cathedral, opposite Federation Square.

Bendigo Talking Tram
Bendigo’s tram system was closed down in 1972, but Bendigo residents took direct action and resuscitated the trams, which now run as a tourist feature. The Bendigo Talking Tram runs with a commentary from the Central Deborah Goldmine, through the centre of the city, out to the Tramways Museum and on to the Chinese Joss House. It leaves the mine every half hour, or five minutes later from Alexandra fountain in Charing Cross.

Tawali Resort diving
Alotau has some incredible diving - along the north coast, within the bay and around the islands. Unfortunately there are no longer any diving operators based in Alotau itself. Until another tender starts up, the only way to see some of these incredible seascapes is to travel to Tawali Resort, 1½ hours up the coast. Day trips to Tawali Resort can be arranged through Napatana Lodge.

The views of the forest canopy are wonderful and you can go even higher by ascending the spiral staircase to the 47m-high lookout tower. There’s a visitor centre and cafe.
