A Holiday in Muscat, Oman
Blog: teach travel play - 21 November 2011
The UAE landscape shows us a stark contrast between the way the Arabian Desert was, for over 5,000 years, and the futuristic horizon of a nation that has seen some of the most rapid growth in history. What the UAE is lacking however, is an architectural history. I hadn’t noticed the significance of this gap [...]

Oman’s Amazing Street Art
Blog: Inside the Travel Lab - 20 May 2011
Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman, easily wins the prize for the cleanest capital city. At least in my book. Its tarmac is flawless, its water pristine. Even the

Salalah, blah blah blah
Blog: Joe's Trippin' - 17 January 2011
Sometimes travelling in the off-season sucks. While visiting a place out of peak season can assure discounts and hotel beds, there is more often than not a reason why tourists don't go to that particular place at that time of year. There are times it doesn't matter.

Rebirth of Nizwa
Blog: Joe's Trippin' - 16 January 2011
When one thinks of major monuments, places like the Pyramids or the Taj Mahal or Machu Picchu might pop into mind. Oman has none of these. As a matter of fact, 4 of Oman's 5 UNESCO heritage listed sites (including a delisted one) include a park, a trading route, a watering system and an archeological site.

Sur's up
Blog: Joe's Trippin' - 15 January 2011
If asked, i'm sure many people would say the ideal holiday destination should involve "sun, sand and surf". With over 2,000 km of coastline, Oman has a lot of all three.

Man, Oman!
Blog: Joe's Trippin' - 13 January 2011
The words “Middle East” have almost taken on a notion of profanity in the west. The mere mention of any number of countries in the region are sure to conjure up images of US flag burning, suicide bombers and terrorism masterminds.

Day 519: Left of Port
Blog: The Odyssey Expedition - 20 June 2010
Thu 3 Jun: One thing that’s great about Salalah is that all of the Port Agents are in the one place, which makes it a little easier to get hold of shipping schedules and contacts. After a little bit of digging I discovered two things: that no ships stop here en route to Eritrea, but [...]

Lady in Oman
Blog: A Lady in London - 27 March 2010
Arriving in Oman you get the feeling that you've just landed in the country of Disneyland. Every building is shiny and new, every car is less than five years old, and every highway is flanked by decorative street lamps just like those on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. Only this kingdom—er, sultanate—is real.

Oman, Bandar Jissah. Jan 2010.
Blog: Midwife Moira's Travel Blog. With Emirates Cabin Crew on the side. - 11 February 2010
When planning my trips abroad, I normally spend many hours researching the country I am about to visit. This means that I usually have a good understanding of the geography of the chosen country, if nothing else! This trip to Oman was so spontaneous, (booked upon arrival to Dubai, two days ago). That I seriously over estimated the distance from Qurm to Bandar Jissah. What I had failed to realise is that they are both 'suburbs' of Muscat.

In case you don't know, In England, December 2009 was cold. The snow started the week prior to Christmas. I struggled into work, on un-gritted roads, in a rear wheel drive car that turned into a 'Snake' in the snow.In the NothWest we had a White December, White Christmas, White New Year, and its still white!

Road Trip Oman
Blog: Travelicious - 26 January 2010
Our road trip through Oman took us to Wahiba Sands, a huge body of sand covering 12,500 square kilometers. Here we put up our tent on the soft orange sand and fell asleep to the sounds of the wind. The next morning we were woken up by some voices. As we emerged from our tent, we were met by a group of young boys.

McArabia: McDonald’s in the Arab World
Blog: Everything Everywhere - 29 April 2009
Since I last wrote about McDonald’s when I was in Dubai, I’ve been in Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt and Jordan. As all of the McDonald’s in the Arabian Peninsula are owned by the same company, there isn’t a whole lot to add to what I had to say about McDonald’s in Dubai. I [...]
