Visitor/Tourist Visa for Canadians

Hi,

I'm going to Muscat next Monday. I've read that Canadians can get a visa on arrival and that all we have to do is fill in the form and pay the fee. Does anyone know if anything else is required, such as a passport-size photo?

Taxi fares in Muscat

We - two adults - need to get a taxi from the International Airport to the Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa in late February. The latest Lonely Planet for Oman states that there is a 'free' Airport shuttle for the Resort. According to the Resort this is not so. The Resort is quoting for a Audi A8 or similar car - OMR 45.00 nett per way per car. On the current exchange rates I calculate this to be $AUD143!. Can anybody give me some ideas if this is a reasonable rate at that time of…

Car rental recommendations, hiking/trekking informations, camping sites infos are more that welcome.

Waiting for replies, thanks

Some post holiday Oman tips

Hi all,

My girlfriend and I just returned from a superb 16 day holiday to Oman. I won't bore you with the full report, simply some miscellaneous information that we picked up, to fill in the gaps between the relatively poor LP and Brandt guides. We are 29, I speak reasonable Arabic and have lived and traveled in the region quite extensively. In no particular order:

Musandam: Khasab Hotel was simple and fine. The helpful ladies at reception easily organised our 4WD day tour and a dhow ride.…

Get around without a car?

I'll be in Muscat for a few days and was hoping to do some nearby, quick, side, day-trips to some wadis, deserts, etc., (haven't decided on final spots/times yet, though). However, is it possible to arrange these side-trips with hotels, travel agencies on the ground in Muscat? I'll be alone and I'd prefer not to deal with renting a car on my own (most resources I've seen have told travelers to rent cars to see nearby places, but I was hoping there would be another way).
Thanks!

Staying longer than 60 days, quick trip over the border and back?

Dear people,

is there anyone who can help me with this: I will travel to Oman for a longer period of time. When arriving I will get a 30 days tourist visa and will have it extended for 30 days = 60 days. Would it be possible to jump over the border to Abu Dhabi (not Dubai) afterwards and go back the same day and get a new 30 days tourist visa on arrival again??
(By they way, has anyone experienced problems with the extension after 30 days?)
Thank you very much for your help! If you know…

driving from RAK in UAE to Daba

We have enjoyed Oman so much so far that we would like now to drive the southern part of Musandam from Ras Al Khaymah. My question can we drive from RAK to Daba via the Wadi Al Bih road then Sabtan stop enroute for lunch at Six Senses Zaghy Bay stay at the Golden Tulip and drive back the following day to Dubai via Kohr Fakhan? Or the other way round if better. This looks like a pretty interesting drive and would complement our recent drive from Rustaq to Nizwa via Wadi Bani Awf. Thanks.

One day in Muscat

I've got 12 hours in Muscat. I'm a photographer who enjoys landscapes and villages with locals.

Can anyone give me advice on how best to explore for the day? I'm thinking to rent a car and get into the countryside and wadis. Right or wrong?
Thanks in advance!

Kevin Hayden.

Al Hoota Caves

Hi, does anyone know if the Al Hoota Caves are open to the public between now and the weekend? Am getting conflicting reports online, with some saying it's been closed for 2-3 years, but some people apparently got inside in May and August this year. Thanks.
