International restaurants in Norway

  1. A

    Bryggekanten

This recently opened brasserie and bar sits right beside the harbour. It’s a great choice, even if only for a drink. Even better, tuck into a pizza, bruschetta or creative sandwich (such as bacalao in tomato sauce, lightly spiced with chilli) on its broad terrace. Inside, where full dinners are served, is more intimate. Here, too, the menu is imaginative, taking traditional ingredients and giving them a new twist.

  2. Lysthuset

The Lysthuset is the best of Andenes' limited dining options. In front, it's your typical takeaway burgers, pizzas and other speedy stuff. Behind, the restaurant proper offers altogether more subtle fare. For dessert, indulge in a little 'Sex on the Mountain' - an orgasmic confection of ice cream, cream, blackberries and cloudberries, all doused in eggnog.

  3. B

    Kampen Bistro

Off the beaten track, this former working-class eatery has been transformed into a slightly stodgy neighbourhood bistro. The good-looking room pleases a local crowd. How about some chicken confit and antipasto?

  4. Café & Restaurant de 4 Roser

The Four Roses offers a great gourmet experience, whether you drop into the café for something simple or linger over a tempting item from the restaurant’s creative à la carte selection.

  5. Dr Nielsen’s

Any cravings for Greek salads and grilled meats will be satisfied at this place, which also does pasta, chicken and some fish dishes. Every other restaurant in Mandal does seafood and not much else.

  6. Pernille Cafeteria

Right in the heart of Evje, this upstairs place is popular with locals although the menu is not Norway’s most inspirational. Expect burgers and Bolognese alongside a few Norwegian dishes.

  7. C

    Krambuavis

This is an excellent choice with large servings, friendly waiters and good food, which ranges from Mexican to spare ribs and fish dishes.

  8. D

    Timbuktu Bar & Restaurant

This hip place attracts a young-and-trendy crowd for its excellent meat and well-chosen seafood as much as for the chic atmosphere.

  9. E

    Soleado

Better value for lunch than for dinner, Soleado does tasty dishes that include club sandwiches (Nkr92) and chicken curry (Nkr162).

Stim is set in a refurbished 19th-century canning factory and has window tables on the 1st floor that we really like.
