Enjoy the mountain breeze in the grounds of this symbol of brotherhood between Norway and Denmark. The hotel is modern, swanky and in the woods. The barn-like structure with its four-floor entry was once used to dry and store food - now you can go inside to buy Jette Frölich's home goods.
Given to Denmark as an expression of gratitude for WWII food relief, this tranquil hotel sits near the top of a small, forested mountain with expansive views over distant hills. Amazingly though, you are still in a capital city. Beautifully landscaped grounds and ample common rooms provide social environments for guests to congregate. To encourage such congregation, rooms contain no televisions. Though modern (it dates to 1946), the place remains charming with cosy hallways of red panelling, and enclosed painted beds. A stabburet from 1775 lies nearby. Children love the complimentary teddy bears they receive for sleeping overnight (a reference to when Lysebu operated as an informal orphanage after the war). Profits from Lysebu go to a scholarship fund.
