I am going to be in Svalbard next week. Among other things I would like to go on a boat trip to Pyramiden. I would like people's opinions on whether the full day, slow boat trip is better than the half day, fast catamaran. I figure if I did the half day one then I can fit in a half day trip to Barentsburg. I have only four full days so the others will be filled with kayaking and hiking.
Many thanks in advance,
My family and I would like to see the Northern Lights next winter. Which country would be the better place to see them, Finland or Norway? And while I realize the lights are unpredictable, when would be the best time during winter to catch a glimpse of them? Thanks!
I am looking for bus timetables from rjukan to oslo in july. I can only find 2 buses a day in the afternoon. is this right? Is it not possible to get a bus in the morning? thanks
Hi Guys.. What's the best (cheapest and easiest) way to get from Gardermoen airport to central station? Can we just buy tickets at the airport? Thanks
We are a couple in our early 30s and will be in Norway for 10 days in June. We are focused on seeing Norway's natural beauty and spending time outdoors.
We'd like to see Lofoten, hike in Jotunheimen, and visit the fjords to the west, but wonder whether that will be too rushed and we should pick two of the three areas instead.
1) Should we pick 2 of 3? If so, which 2 are the best choice? Are two areas (e.g. Jotunheimen and west fjords) more similar, so that we would get more variety…
I and my sister are planning to spend some time in Norway and Denmark in July. This will be our very first time in Nordic countries and we expect it to be much more different than sightseeing around Austria or Germany. I need help with transportation and our draft itinerary. Our itinerary is as follows:
July 22 - Late night flight after work from Istanbul to Copenhagen.
July 23-24 - Full day Copenhagen
July 24- Late evening (9:40 pm) flight to Stavanger
July 25- 26 - Pulpit Rock and…
I'm in need of some mountain action and am thinking of nipping over to Norway in June, hiring a car and trying to climb Galdhøpiggen and Trolltunga across 4 days (did Preikestolen and Kjeragbolten two years back).
Does anyone think this is possible? I don't have a problem with long drives but didn't know if being in June I might encounter road diversions etc?
Plan would be:
Day 1: Leave Bergen midday - Start Trolltunga hike by 3pm. Hike four hours. Camp on trail.
Day 2: Up early and…
On the Fjord Line web site they advertise child and adult prices. No mention of Senior discounts BUT they are possible. I have just taken the 'Norway in a Nutshell Tour' and the 'Hardangerfjord Tour'. For Seniors over 67 yeras the Rail, ferry, fast ferry and bus companies offer discounts when you travel if you buy the tickets as you travel.
The services operate every day, they connect well and in my case plenty of room was available. So for single journies buy from the driver of the bus…
I was hoping to get some advice on my trip to Norway in two weeks. I had been planning on heading from Stavanger to Kinsarvik to hike to the Husdalen Valley on the 30th May and then venture to Bergen. However have become very confused about transport options in this area.
Does anyone have any advice?
The alternative was to travel from Stavanger to Bergen on the Kystbussen. Then to head to Voss via bus/train. From there I could use Voss as a base for a day trip to Kinsarvik and…
Hello folks. Does anyone know where in Oslo and Stockholm to find postings of local events? In the states,
postings would be at the library or community centers - I wonder where they might be in Norway and Sweden, in Oslo and Stockholm specifically. Local events like poetry readings, or authors reading excerpts, or local music groups, to name a few. Any advice along these lines is appreciated.
