Out of Town News
Harvard Sq’s favorite landmark is Out of Town News. Indeed, dating to 1927, it is a national historic landmark. This quintessential newsstand sells newspapers from every major US city, as well as dozens of cities around the world. Locals panicked when the newsstand threatened to close in 2008. But the news gods stepped in, in the shape of an investor who promised that Out of Town News is going to keep selling papers, just like it’s been doing for the past 80-plus years. Even if you’re not looking for reading material, you need to know this place, as it’s the top spot to hook up with friends coming off the T.
