Cigar shopping in North America

  1. A

    La Casa del Habano

This well-stocked stogie temple has 50 brands of Cuban cigar. Be aware that taking these across the border into the USA is illegal although some travelers separate the bands when packing. Cigaraphernalia sold here includes cutters, humidors, lighters and books. The lounge and espresso bar attracts young important puffers.

    El Cigarrito

According to convivial owner Carlos, this is the only cigar store in Mexico City – indeed Mexico! – that carries such a wide range of puros, imported from the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Nicaragua and Cuba, plus local Mexican stock.

    Garcia Cigars

There are plenty of cigar shops in Key West, but our favorite is this shackfront, where a sweet Cuban woman sells handrolled goods while she quotes and constantly reads the Bible, all in the face of the drunken screams of hundreds of horny frat boys.

    La Bodeguita del Habano

An old-fashioned cigar shop run by an old-fashioned lady. One Cuban cigar will cost you M$70, a handsome box of 25, more like M$500. All the big puffers are here, including Montecristo and Quintero.

    Tabagie Pat & Robert

Pat & Robert has a marvelous selection of the aromatic leaf – canned, rolled, displayed in plastic dispenser bins, with whatever accessory to make those rising coils a heavenly trip.

    Deco Drive Cigars

Should you need to risk mouth cancer with a ‘vacation cigar’, why not do so imitating all the local skinny-minnie models who love a fine Churchill with their martini-and-salad.

    Don Pablo Cigar Company

Premium hand-rolled Cuban-style stogies, except of course, they’re not actually Cuban cigars (darn those US customs officials!).

Pick up some Cuban-style cigars after watching tabaqueros hand-roll them at El Crédito Cigars.
