Sorento's
Little known outside of Fenway, Sorento's is a fabulous find for its romantic ambiance and tasty pizzas and pastas. The umbrella-shaded patio is the perfect spot to linger over lunch after spending the morning at the MFA. The interior is also atmospheric, with an open kitchen and candlelit tables. It aint fancy, but it's definitely the classiest option along this stretch of Peterborough St.

2 Amys
A bit out of the way (but a stone's throw from Washington National Cathedral), 2 Amys serves some of DC's best thin-crust pizzas. Pies are sprinkled with market-fresh ingredients and baked to perfection in a wood-burning oven. Avoid the weekend crowds.

Pete’s Apizza
The specialty pizza here is New Haven–style. No, that doesn’t mean it comes dressed with Yale flair, that’s a white pizza (ie no tomato sauce) with olive oil and clams, with an NYC-style thin crust. Take our word on this: it’s really good. There’s dozens of other combinations on the menu, but we’ll opt for the white pizza with clams most days.

Belltown Pizza
Pizza and beer is great, but pizza and hard liquor works quicker. Started as a tiny bar serving New York-style pizza, Belltown Pizza has expanded a lot since then but maintains its original mission of good food and good fun at grown-up hours (the bar’s open until 2am). A large pie is enough to feed four hungry people. You can also get salads, pasta and sandwiches.

Restaurant Vayma
Located at Hacienda Vayma, this beachfront restaurant has an extensive international menu. Highlights include calamari tacos, Thai shrimp, mole poblano chicken and several tasty varieties of pizza. At night, the restaurant and hotel grounds are bathed in the glow of candles and tiki torches; the perfect spot for a romantic sunset dinner.

Pequod’s Pizza
Like the ship in Moby Dick, from which this neighborhood restaurant takes its name, Pequod’s deep-dish is a thing of legend – head and shoulders above chain competitors because of its caramelized cheese, generous toppings and sweetly flavored sauce. The atmosphere is affably rugged too, with surly waitstaff and graffiti-covered walls.

A popular spot both for folks grabbing a slice on the go or for savvy locals picking up whole pies, this is where you'll find 'New York-style' slices, cheese-stuffed calzones and pizza toppings from the standard (pepperoni, onion, meatballs) to the strange (avocado, feta cheese, bay leaves). There's also a large array of budget-wise salads.

Pizzalley's on St George
The aroma of homemade dough and melting imported Italian cheese wafting from Pizzalley's baking ovens accounts for the long lines for a table. Vine-draped arched mirrors deceptively enhance the size of the elongated dining room; there's also a hidden covered courtyard out back, but the best seat in the house is the tiled rooftop terrace.

The wooden floors creak in this restored 1913 house and the exposed-brick interiors seem to ooze history. The chef hails from just outside Naples, and his gourmet pizzas - with two sauce options, rosse and bianche - fire over a wood oven. The Italian wine selection is broad and the patio seating delightful.

Gerda 'Aunty' Medeiros makes pizza all day, and traditional hearty German dinners at night, served in a casual diner setting. While the owner doesn't like to compare her 'housewife cooking' to Waimea's Edelweiss restaurant's 'hotel cooking', she shouldn't be so modest. There's karaoke on Friday from 21:30 until 02:00.

A casual and upbeat place for lunch near Audubon Park. The crowd is a friendly mix of university students and gallery hoppers. Pizzas and focaccia sandwiches get the contemporary treatment, with ingredients such as sundried tomatoes, goat and feta cheeses, artichokes and roasted walnuts making frequent appearances.

Luna Pizza
The pizzas that come out of the brick oven are divine – crispy and thin-crusted – and the mozzarella is fresh. Luna’s space is reminiscent of an upmarket cafeteria, and jazz musicians play on the weekends. Try the salmon, onions and caper pizza. Amazingly, they offer single slices, too.

WonderWorks Outta Control Magic Show is a 90-minute comedy and magic show that includes all the pizza, popcorn, beer and soda you can make disappear. Kids are often picked to spin plates and perform crazy dances, and adults are equally humiliated with prop-fuelled renditions of 'I Got You Babe.'

Pizza dreams come true with every possible ingredient under the sun at Taos' top pizza palace; for example, the recommended Vera Cruz has chicken breast and veggies marinated in a honey-chipotle sauce. Slices are enormous, and crusts are made with organic flour. Out Back will also bake dough balls for kids, and has a great back patio.

The motto stutters, 'Our crust is as thin as supermodel' – no prizes for grammar, and we didn't see any bulimic waifs chomping down slices, but we're willing to take the bait for one of their Florentine special pizzas (pesto, spinach, roast peppers and feta).

That tantalizing aroma you followed into this 22-seat eatery is thin-crust Roman pizza, probably the ever-popular Travestere (fresh mozzarella, arugula and prosciutto), served with sass by Roman owner Romina. Vegetarians prefer the Funghi Selvatici, with wild mushrooms, zucchini and sundried tomato, but that saliva-prompting aroma that elicits exclamations from Italian regulars is the O Sole Mio, with capers, olives, mozzarella and anchovies. Go local with drinks – Anchor Steam is on tap or Claudia Springs Zin (bottles are half-off Mondays and Tuesdays) – and save room for housemade tiramisu.
