  2. B

    Cloud Cliff Bakery

Slip on some Birkenstocks and drop by for a stack of groovy blue corn pancakes (around US$6). 5. D

    Restaurant 100% Natural

Vegetarians and health-food nuts delight at this health-food chain near Avenida Yaxchilán, which serves juice blends (try the ‘Crazy Yog’ or the ‘Vampiro’), a wide selection of yogurt-fruit-vegetable combinations, and brown rice, pasta, fish and chicken dishes. The onsite bakery turns out whole-wheat products, and the entire place is very nicely decorated and landscaped. Service is excellent – at times even too attentive.

    Tender Greens

At Culver City’s latest hotspot, lines regularly spill out the door. Exclusive nightclub? Nope, it’s Tender Greens, home of the freshest salads in the city. Order at the bright counter – try ahi tuna niçoise or grilled flatiron steak – and they’ll toss it up as you move down the line. There’s a whiff of salad Nazi in the prep – ‘We don’t recommend substitutions’ – but trust them, they’re that good.

    Last Carrot

Folks of all walks, corporate suits included, come here for fresh juice, delicious wraps (veggie options are great but the tuna melt is divine) and old-Grove neighborliness. The Carrot’s endurance next to massive CocoWalk is testament to the quality of its good-for-your-body food served in a good-for-your-soul setting, so come here and do something good for the world, or at least for your mouth.

  8. G

    Kaka'ako Kitchen

Although it's not as ʻono (delicious) as it once was, this takeout joint still serves functional plate-lunch meals with brown rice and organic salad. For a gastronomic edge, order a gourmet plate with crispy sweet-chili chicken or a seared ʻahi sandwich on a taro bun. Daily specials may disappoint. Also at Airport Industrial Park.

    O'Keeffe Café

An elegant eatery with shaded patio dining, this fine café boasts an exceptional wine list and exquisite, mostly organic mains like the Colorado lamb chops with a red chile honey glaze. And it's all right next to the O'Keeffe Museum . The café also offers wine tastings and 'Emerging Oenophile' classes.

    Josie's Restaurant

Organic fare (with its provenance listed on the menu) that satisfies vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters alike has kept Josie's around for more than a decade. Its clean, simple ambience is reflected in the food – steak, salads, gorgeous veggie dishes, but nothing too processed or tortured.

For 'healthy gourmet' eats, both vegetarians and omnivores will find satisfaction at this casual counter with patio tables. Sandwiches are especially creative, eg oven-roasted turkey with pesto mayo and wild-mushroom meatloaf. Save room for scrumptious baked goodies.
