Grill restaurants in North America

  1. A

    Forbes Island

No man is an island, except for an eccentric millionaire named Forbes Thor Kiddoo. A miniature lighthouse, thatched hut, waterfall, sandy beach and swaying palms transformed his moored houseboat into the Hearst Castle of the bay. Today this bizarre domicile is a restaurant strong on grilled meats and atmosphere. Reserve in advance and catch boat shuttles from Pier 39; landlubbers dining below deck should bring their motion-sickness meds.

  2. Stakeout Grill & Bar

Steak and seafood prepared with a continental flair draw folks 8 miles south of town off NM 68. Patrons also come for the great wine list and the stellar sunset views of the Rio Grande Gorge from atop Outlaw Hill. (Yes, there were outlaws here at one point.) It’s the most romantic place to dine around town.

  3. Miguel's Baja Grill

Dine on Baja fish tacos in the sky-lit breezeway patio lined with brightly painted walls. Fajitas, chilis rellenos and seafood mains are good sized, and the portobello salad is excellent. Refreshingly honest staff will tell you yes, they do have margaritas, but they may not be the best in town.

  4. B

    Border Grill

With Mexican food at its best, an outdoor patio that's nice for people-watching and margarita-sipping during the day, and dishes like green chicken poblano enchiladas, made by the women known as the 'too hot tamales' on the Food Network, it's worth making a trip here for dinner.

  5. Red Rock Grill

Settle into your log-replica chair and peer out of the window-lined dining room or relax on the big deck with magnificent canyon views. Breakfast is a buffet ($9). At dinner, expect solidly good, but not great, prime rib, grilled trout etc. Make reservations.

  6. Horney Toad Bar & Grill

Primary access to Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is 70 miles south of Hanksville. At the end of the road is Bullfrog Marina. Inland 12 miles or so from the marina, the Horney Toad Bar & Grill is the local fave.

  7. Silver Peak Grill & Taproom

Downtown outpost hums with the chatter of happy locals settling in with microbrews and great eats, from wild-mushroom pizza to barley-crusted chicken sandwiches and lamb burgers topped with kalamata olives.

  8. Ogelvie’s Taos Grill & Bar

There’s no place like the 2nd-floor patio for surveying the scene on the plaza. And there’s nothing like the chicken mole for lunch ($11) or the garlic and black pepper rib-eye ($25).

  9. Stagecoach Grill

Here’s where the locals come to catch up on the gossip. The all-American food ain’t fancy, but it’ll stick to your ribs.

  10. Sunset Grill

The view is the only draw here on a hill overlooking Moab.

  12. Hell’s Backbone Grill

Along with Café Diablo in Torrey and Buffalo Bistro in Glendale, this restaurant makes up the triple crown of foodie destinations in southwestern Utah. Hell’s Backbone serves soulful, earthy preparations of locally raised meats and organically grown produce from its own garden. Save room for desserts such as chimayo-chile ginger cake with butterscotch sauce. Dinner reservations are a must.

  13. Burr Trail Outpost & Grill

The outpost is equal parts gallery, outfitter, restaurant and gathering place; beer and wine available.

  14. C

    Red Eye Grill

A grungy bar in the Warehouse District for those 21 years and up, the Red Eye is strictly for greasy burgers and fries. It’s convenient if you’re seeing a show at one of the nearby clubs.
