- Restaurants › Buffet
The all-you-can-eat buffets at the casinos are popular fueling-up options and can be a good bargain if you like to stuff yourself silly. Some open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Prices tend to be higher on Friday and Saturday nights when most casinos put out especially lavish spreads. Some serve Sunday brunch. Other local favorites include the Silver Legacy's Victorian Buffet (775 325 7401; 407 N Virginia St), Atlantis' Toucan Charlie's Buffet & Grille (775 825 4700; 3800 S Virginia St) and nearby Peppermill's Island Buffet (775 826 2121; 2707 S Virginia St).

Open Sesame
In the cavernous basement of the Smugglers Inn Steakhouse, this Asian fusion noodle house is something you have to experience. You can order off the menu, but the way to go is to make it yourself. You just choose the meat or seafood you want to be in the stir-fry and then they give you a bowl to cruise through the buffet.
Load up on veggies, grab a few scoops of your choice of sauce and then drop it off at the kitchen where your meal is stir-fried and brought out to you. Great fun - but if you don't like your meal, the only person to blame is yourself.

Show up at 9:30am for lunch or 3:30pm for dinner to put your name on the list. 'Sho-nuff Vegetable Sandwich' meets vegetarian needs.

Chez Riz
After 15 years operating a popular Quebec restaurant of the same name, Pakistani chef Rizuan Ul-Hak packed it all up and moved to Fredericton. What luck! The tandoori chicken is so good, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, former Prime Minister of Canada, is apparently a faithful customer. Come in to sample the smorgasbord of Eastern treats at the fragrant buffet.

Makino Chaya
Smart Japanese decor and paper umbrellas hanging from the ceiling set the tone at this cheery buffet restaurant. This place has it all, a full a la carte menu plus a fresh buffet spread of sushi, briny seafood delights and salads just for starters. The dinner menu includes the freshest lobster and wonderful desserts.

Pagoda Floating Restaurant
A vaguely tropical atmosphere draws elderly crowds to the kitschy Pagoda Hotel. The so-so breakfast buffet includes local favorites like Portuguese sausage. Dinner is a fancier spread of prime rib, crab legs, Hawaiian poke and sashimi. It's overpriced but there are worse buffets in Waikiki.

With Brazilian mixed grills, Chinese wok-fried dishes, Mexican tacos, Italian pizzas and pastas, many say this is the best all-around buffet in town. It’s pretty darn hard to dispute that claim, especially after award-winning pies, cakes, cookies and Italian gelato.

Chinatown Café
You can load up on salad and greasy chicken wings at the casino buffets while saloons offer cheap pub grub to soak up the brews. For something different, there's the lemon chicken at Chinatown Café, which does Chinese staples well.
