Entertainment in North America

  1. Eddie Brady's

Neighborhood tavern in a rehabilitated downtown building (c 1863).

  2. Edge

The Peppermill reels in the nighthounds with a big glitzy dance club, where go-go dancers, smoke machines and laser lights may cause sensory overload. If so, step outside to the view lounge patio and relax in front of cozy fire pits.

    Electric Pickle

Miami can work its magic on anyone, even Wynwood's angst-ridden artists and hipsters (Wypsters). Like Cinderella touched by a fairy godmother (or a very good DJ), they become glamorous club kids in this two-story hepcat hot spot. The Pickle is as sexy and gorgeous as Miami gets, but with its modish library and (semi)literati clientele, it's also intelligent enough to hold a conversation...though you should expect it to be a sloppy, fun drunk by midnight.

  4. Elena's Soul

Live blues, jazz, drinks, food, place to dance – all rolled into one West Philly spot.

  5. B

    El Farol

Aside from the Flamenco dinner shows, there's a regular Latin soul show and other entertainment.

  6. Elite

An extremely friendly Capitol Hill establishment with darts, pool, not-too-loud music and decent cocktails.

  7. ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex

This 220-acre sports complex hosts hundreds of amateur and youth events every year, as well as a handful of professional events including Atlanta Braves spring-training games. Equipped with lots of TVs and PS3 systems, the PlayStation Pavilion can kill hours on a rainy day.

This friendly pub serves a fine selection of Irish beers on tap, decent pub grub and live-feed rugby.

  11. Fitger's Brewhouse

In the hotel complex, the Brewhouse rocks with live music and fresh brews. Try them via the seven-beer sampler (3oz glasses $7).

  12. E

    Fiume

Tiny spot above the Abyssinia Ethiopian restaurant in West Philly. Live music Thursday through Sunday.

  13. F Jones Corner

The real deal. All shapes and sizes descend on this down-home club when everywhere else closes; a race, color and creed potpourri on Farish St that hosts some seriously authentic Delta musicians who have been known to play until sunrise. Don't show up before 1am.

  14. Florida Marlins

MLB baseball season is May to September.

  15. Florida Panthers

NHL hockey season runs mid-October to mid-April.

  16. Foundry

From the vast terrace to the retro-industrial interior, the Foundry is a factory of fun. There's a huge drinks and beer selection plus an ever-intriguing menu of stylish pub vittles. On weekends it seems like half of KC is here, so order two drinks at a time – and two of the oddly addictive soft pretzels.

  17. F

    Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co

Expertly made rye, whiskey and gin drinks in a classy setting.

  19. G

    Gallery Espresso

Savannah's best coffee shop; this and the Sentient are two of the South's best as well. Gallery is cozier, more conveniently located and is near-fiendish regarding its teas. There's also light fare and scrumptious desserts.

  20. Gip's Place

You'll need to ask a local for directions to this tin-roof makeshift backyard shack in a dicey neighborhood in Bessemer, one of the only truly authentic juke joints left outside Mississippi. Gip, a gravedigger by day, opens the doors on Saturday only, when the place is shoulder-to-shoulder with blues fans come one come all. It's BYOB but there's no need – free moonshine is passed around in Mason jars, permitted by a legal loophole in Alabama that says it must be given away, not sold.

  21. Gist Street Readings

Holds monthly readings from local and well-known national literary figures. Best to get there when doors open at 7:15pm, since turnout is typically large. Bring your own refreshments.
