Getting there & around
Rivas is the regional travel hub, and its enormous, chaotic bus lot (which may be a bit of a shock if you're arriving from orderly Costa Rica) connects the region to Granada, Masaya and the rest of the country. It's usually easier to take colectivo taxis to San Jorge, where the main ferry terminal to Isla de Ometepe is located. You can also get to Ometepe via ferry from Granada.
Regular buses also serve the beach towns, but for some, including Bahía Majagual and Playa Pie de Gigante, you'll still require an alternate form of transportation. The region is developing fast, though, so keep an eye out for more options.
