Hey, so we are putting together our final travel itinerary for about 4 weeks in Nicaragua and I have an epiphany, but don't know if it will work. Also relevant, we are a family, so I have kids aged 2 and 7.

So high on our list is both Big (or Little) Corn Island for a few days. (We are leaning Big because of the Carribean culture and the kids...) Also, we REALLY want to spend 5ish days on the Rio San Juan and area. We fly in and out of SJO Costa Rica too. Of course there is the stuff in the…

After reviewing many entries, I have a 2-week itinerary & would be grateful for any advice from our experienced readers. My wife & I are experienced travelers preferring to go off the beaten path, stay in locally owned B&B’s or hostels & try to avoid tourist havens. Our Spanish is passable & we’d prefer not to spend more than $40/night with A/C; clean places with character. Our primary focus will be Nic culture (villages, schools, maybe home stays), climb a few volcanoes, & visit a few…

Looking to go surfing in Nicaragua in November. I am a single female traveling alone and looking for a spot to surf for a week. I am a beginner surfer but am looking to improve my skills over the week. Any suggestions are welcome! I am looking to stay in a hostel or guesthouse if possible.

Thanks in advance!

Went in Nicaragua in april
- The boat from Granada to Ometepe and San carlos doesn't exist anymore. If you go to Ometepe take the bus from Granada market, several per days, Upon arrival taxis are waiting for you, not expensive, bargaining ok.
The only way to go to San carlos are the airplane (expensive but worthwhile, you will see the volcanoes) or the bus from Managua, 6 to 8 hours (depending of the driver)
- San Carlos no interest : Hotel Cabinas Leyko, people not friendly, rooms without aircon…

Hey there!

I just came back from a 2 months trip in Nicaragua and I wanted to point out that you should update information about the small beach village of El Transito. It was the little gem of my trip and definetly deserves more attention :)
It's a secluded beach on the Pacific coast, between Managua and Léon. After 13 KM on a dirt road, you get to that very small fishing town. It's still a very good kept secret, but my bet is that in 2-3 years it will become more like Las Penitas, with paved…

I'm taking my younger brother who just graduated college to Nicaragua. Was hoping to get some advice on some good places to check out. It will only be a 10 day trip. We'd like to see the coast, do some hiking, and also enjoy some nightlife to celebrate his grad. Any recommendations would be very helpful, thanks!

Hi!!

I'm a 24 year old school teacher and I am thinking of heading to Nicaragua for the 6 week summer holidays we have got coming up July-September. I have travelled Asia before - India and South east Asia so was looking to explore another part of the world over 5/6weeks and as I don't have months and months to play with I felt Central America is s manageable size to travel around a couple of countries.

Primarily I looking to travel Nicaragua as I have heard it's the cheapest and has the…

We are thinking of taking a trip in mid-July to Nicaragua and want some help setting up an itinerary. I have been to Nicaragua but it was over 20 years ago and I only had 5 days there, so I am sure alot has changed. We would have two weeks there. We're a family of four. Our kids are 10 and 12. Here is what we are looking for:

  • We want some beach time (2 days minimum - Maybe Las penitas?)
  • We would love to go to an active volcano and get up to the crater. I read some of the volcanoes…

Hello,

I am traveling to Nicaragua on Friday and staying only for the weekend!!! My passport is only valid until September... I have read mixed reviews that for U.S. citizens the passport must be valid for length of trip and then some say for 6 months... any of you have this problem or be okay entering on a less than 6 month expiring passport??

Pearl Keys

Tried to check out some trip reports and pics of the Pearl Keys on the web... so far it looks like the Pearl Keys, while reasonably pretty, are not worth the extra day and hassle if already visiting Big/Little Corn.

Moreover, not sure how often the "panga" between the Pearl Keys and the Corn Islands runs so it might need me to backtrack to the mainland.

Any ideas or suggestions?
