Lonely Planet review for Turicentro Estelimar Science Museum & Pools

A good excuse for a 2km walk toward Jinotega, Turicentro Estelimar Science Museum & Pools has a small science museum with some pretty fabulous solar- and pedal-operated dinosaurs made out of old car parts, plus displays involving alternative energy, gears and hydraulics. There are also three attractive pools where you can relax afterward and big cabañas that are a good deal for groups and families.

Sprawling property, nice pool, but nearly empty

    estefani recommends this,

We went here today because we had heard they had a swimming pool. On the northeast side of town, we paid 20 cordobas (less than $1) each for a taxi out there. Afterwards, be prepared to walk at least 1km back toward town before you can catch a cab.

The property is huge! But there was almost no one there. In the front lobby, there was no information (no brochures, list of services, prices of anything, amenities, nothing). The staff answered questions but was not very accommodating or hospitable. Luckily, the pool was open, and they directed us down a small path further into the property.

There are 3 large beautiful pools, but only 1 is in use. It was big and quite clean. There were large palm trees all around the pool and a large covered area with a few chairs. It was 30 cordobas per person to swim (less then $1.50 each). There were 3 kids there by themselves, and that was it.

We asked the kids if there was a restaurant (I had heard there was). They said yes but made it seem like there was no waiter right now or something. We stayed for a little over an hour and then left. There's a sign saying not to bring food/drinks to the pool, so I assume they must serve food.

In any case, it was just what we were looking for, a nice pool to cool off in on a warm afternoon. But that was about it... Would have loved to have seen this place in its prime...
