Lonely Planet review for Market

The big, bustling Market is a fine place for fresh veggies, cheap thongs and much, much more.

Airy market, big selection, good prices

    estefani recommends this,

The market is at the south end of the city and spans from the Pan American Hwy to at least 2-3 blocks west.

Some of the other markets we've been to in other cities (Granada) have been really congested, dirty, uncomfortable, stank. The market in Esteli is not congested at all. The stands are larger and you can mosey around in comfort without dodging people or feeling hurried through.

Most of it is outdoor, though there is one large building with a few clothing shops inside. More in the center of the block are women making fresh tortillas and other food that you can sit and eat right there.

You will find all basic produce here, lots of fruits and vegetables, and you can go stand to stand asking how much an item is to get an idea of the prices before you buy, though I usually just find the ones that look the best and pay whatever they ask. Haggling is normal, I just don't usually do it unless I know I've paid less some other time.
