Lonely Planet review for La Casita
La Casita is surrounded by gardens framing a mountain stream and is the perfect place to relax amid all the jungly loveliness. Here you can enjoy chai tea, homemade yogurt or the signature mariedas, a small loaf of whole-wheat bread with different toppings (veggies, hummus, cheese, whatever). There is a little shop selling spices, seeds, top-quality handicrafts and other interesting items in front, or you may prefer to wander out back and enjoy the finca (farm).
It's hidden about 1km south of town along the Interamericana, just past Cecalli.

Homemade bread, fresh yogurt, huge gardens
estefani recommends this,
La Casita is a MUST if you're in Esteli. It is south of the city, and you will want to take a cab there...lately about 15 cordobas per person (~$.70). Be prepared (sunscreen and sunglasses!:) to walk quite a distance back to town (right along the Pan American highway) as it is difficult to find a cab out there.
It is really busy on Sunday afternoons, and by late afternoon they will likely be out of several items. If you can, try to go a different day. If you can't, no problem...there is plenty of property full of trees, plants, herbs, gardens, and streams to entertain you (and children) if necessary.
The yogurt is good. The "meriendas" include a mini loaf of homemade whole grain bread and your choice of sides/toppings (yogurt butter with fresh herbs, swiss cheese, hummus, marmelade, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc.). You can also order almost any item to go, including large loaves of the homemade whole grain bread for 30 cordobas (less then $1.50).
