Tried to check out some trip reports and pics of the Pearl Keys on the web... so far it looks like the Pearl Keys, while reasonably pretty, are not worth the extra day and hassle if already visiting Big/Little Corn.
Moreover, not sure how often the "panga" between the Pearl Keys and the Corn Islands runs so it might need me to backtrack to the mainland.
Any ideas or suggestions?
My family (my wife and I and our two kids ages 6 and 8) are heading to Nicaragua in a few weeks. We plan on staying for 3 or 4 days somewhere along the Rio San Juan and then making day trips to the surrounding areas to explore. Which town would make a better base camp? Boca de Sabalos or El Castillo. Also, does anyone out there know of any good places to stay? Anything from budget to mid-range would work. Thanks.
have been hearing about the Zika virus and heard that it is mostly in Managua. Any information that it is in Bluefields? Not pregnant but going to visit for 2 weeks. Also what is the best bug repellent to buy?
I'll be traveling in Nicaragua for a month from mid-May to mid-June, and I've heard that a lot of the volcanoes are closed to hiking because of recent eruptions. I was wondering if anyone could share updates or insight as to whether that's true and if so, how many volcanoes have tourist restrictions? I had hoped to possibly do a trek of Momotombo, Masaya, and Cerro Negro but an article in Wired in February has me second guessing... Will the parks be closed? Will it be "hike at your own risk"…
We (woman/man 40's, some Spanish language capacity) will be traveling to Nicaragua landing in Managua on June 9th leaving from Managua June 20th, equaling 10 days in the country. First-time visitors and budget travelers, but willing to splurge a bit (especially if it aids travel from and to the airport) to ease travel and make the most of the limited amount of time we have. We will be dependent on buses and cars.
Beaches: Corn Island or Pacific Coast (and WHERE on the PC)?
I'm in Nicaragua traveling solo and I'm looking to charter a boat to go deep sea fishing either Sunday or Monday near Popoyo. Anyone else interested in getting a boat? Max 4 people.
I'd like to go offshore: $350 for a half day, $600 for a full day.
Let me know!
Currently looking to take a trip during the week of the fourth of July. Nicaragua seems to have the jungle and Beaches we are looking for. I have heard mixed reviews on weather and issues with mosquitoes in the jungle. Does anyone have suggestions or experience at this time of year? We are currently looking into checking out the Cloud Forest in addition to the Corn Islands. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!
I am currently on Ometepe and was thinking about heading on to Rio San Juan area. I am hearing a lot about the current drought: The ferry is no longer going to San Carlos, Nicaragua lake has never een this low, waterfalls and pools and rivers are dry ...
The reason I would be going to the Rio San Juan area is the water and the jungle. Does anyone know what the situation is like there at the moment? A lot of wildlife spotting is by boat and I love to kayak myself. If the rivers are…
Hello... I am planning to fly from Corn Island to Managua (MGA) airport on La Costena airlines, to connect on a separate ticket to an Int'l flight on TACA to San Salvador. I believe the flight from Corn Island makes a 20 min stop in Bluefields. The flight schedule shows the La Costena flight arriving MGA at 2:05 PM and the TACA flight departing MGA at 5:30 PM, which is a 3h25min connection from domestic to International. Remember, these will be separate tickets so TACA will not know I am…
