Lonely Planet review for Backbencher

You might spot the odd parliamentarian on the turps at the Backbencher, a pub opposite the Beehive where rubbery puppets of NZ pollies are mounted trophy-style on the walls (David Lange is a beauty). Good weekend brunches.

    Brilliant brunch spot at the weekends

    madlep recommends this,

    Laid back pub atmosphere. Great place to enjoy a couple of drinks while looking out across the road at parliament 50m away. In some parts of the world, you'd have to go through security checkpoints to get that close, let alone be having a beer.

    The rubber puppets attached to the walls are from a NZ satirical political series from a few years back. Slightly disturbing to see them glaring down at you, but cool all the same.
