My friend and I plan to visit NZ somewhere in October next year. First thing we would like to know is what is the season during that time so we can make appropriate preparation. Second, how do we rent a car in NZ and is there any rent-a-car company that you guys could recommend or which is more save for us to rent and drive a car or use a public transport?
Since this is our 1st trip to NZ, appreciate if there any tips for us as we are going to explore NZ just for a short visit.
Hi, I've just returned from a two week road trip (via rental car) of New Zealand's North Island, I put together a trip report which may assist other travellers in planning their trip. Enjoy!
I'm planning to visit NZ for about one month between Feb/March.
My idea is to hire a van to be free to travel anywhere I want.
I see is quite expensive for one alone.
Anybody want to share all or a part of the trip?
I'm a 33 italian engineer interested on music/photography and outdoor activities ( i want to go to climb close to Christchurch a couple of days too)
Somebody told me also to buy one used there at arrival and the sell it before leaving.
What do you think?
Hello all. First visit to NZ, 30 days. I would like some help with understanding the pros and cons of how to handle the insurance for a camper van rental. They have insurance and a bond required(which I understand), plus we can optionally get whats called "excess reduction". It appears that this "reduction" applies to liability or deductibles in the event of a catastrophic event (?). But this fee is not refundable, and basically triples the insurance. So why should I do this? Are…
My fiance and I are heading to the South Island for our honeymoon in late February/early March for 2 weeks and were hoping to get some feedback about our proposed itinerary.
We are planning on starting the trip hiking the Routeburn track and would like to then spend a day/night kayaking in Milford Sound or possibly venture down to Doubtful Sound for a day or two. It seems like it would be logistically much easier to visit Milford Sound, but if Milford Sound is overrun with tour…
I'm currently road tripping across South Island for the next 1.5 months and as the trip was sort of spontaneous, I didn't get a chance to reserve a spot on the Milford Track. As the next available booking is in April, I was considering trying the track in the next couple of days while it's still in the off season.
Basically, I'm just trying to decide whether it's "worth it" or not. I have a lot of experience hiking and generally stick to alpine hiking as I find that the most enjoyable. I've got…
Hello, I'm planning a trip with my friend to see as much as NZ as possible in 2 months after which she will say her goodbyes to leave me to venture hopefully with friends and local knowledge at this point. I'm young, but not looking for a party bus, but a really breath taking and adventure filled trip. I'd like to be confident that the bus option I choose should ensure I make friends, but see the real New Zealand too and with a long distance relationship I'm not looking to mingle too much on the…
In February, my girlfriend and I are going to spend three weeks travelling around New Zealand. We are currently staying in Melbourne and plan to head to Sydney after our time in NZ. I’m reaching out for some advice only the following topics:
- What is the cheapest way to get to NZ? I have checked Expedia and various airline websites, but I’m looking to find out if there are any ‘sneaky’ tips on getting to and from NZ.
- Is hitchhiking a safe and reliable way to get around the country? Does…
Hi there! Am contemplating a 3 week trip to NZ in July since that is when school is out here in CA. Was also thinking about renting a camper van to do the 3 week trek, but have started to have doubts after reading about the winter weather. Is it realistic to rent and drive around this time of the year? Am concerned about the amount of daylight, whether things will be completely covered in snow, etc. I have heard amazing things about New Zealand and all of its beauty...wouldn't want to miss out…
Been doing some research into the pros and cons of each company but would appreciate any responses on here too, since people have been so helpful in the past.
I am currently in Auckland and cannot wait to get out of the city. Here alone and heard the bus tours are a good way of meeting new people / making friends. I'm 25, enjoy a night out like the next person but not EVERY night, love seeing the sights and exploring nature / doing activities. I get the impression KE is more of a…
