Getting there & around
The Greymouth Travel Centre (03-768 7080; www.westcoasttravel.co.nz; Railway station, 164 Mackay St; 9am-5pm Mon-Fri, 10am-3pm Sat & Sun; ) books all forms of transport, including buses, trains and interisland ferries, and has luggage-storage facilities. This is also the bus depot and offers wi-fi access.
Try Greymouth Taxis (03-768 7078). To the airport is around $20.
InterCity (03-365 1113; www.intercity.co.nz) has daily 1.30pm buses north to Westport ($32, two hours) and Nelson ($75, six hours), and south to Franz Josef ($53, 3½ hours) and Fox Glaciers ($57, 4¼ hours). Prices vary depending on season and availability.
Atomic Shuttles (03-349 0697; www.atomictravel.co.nz) runs daily to Queenstown ($85, 10½ hours, departs at 7.30am), with daily services to Fox Glacier ($35, 4¼ hours, departing 3.15pm), Picton ($60, 7½ hours, departing 1.15pm), and Hokitika ($15, one hour, departing 2pm).
