Taupo is motel central, with many spread out along the lake, especially southeast of the town centre at Waipahihi and Two Mile Bay. Acacia Bay, 5km to the west, has some good B&Bs. Areas have been designated for Freedom Campers between the hours of 5pm and 10am at the Ferry Rd parking bay and at the marina.
