Getting there & away
Air Chathams (03-305 0209; www.airchathams.co.nz) flies directly to Chatham Island from Wellington, Christchurch, Auckland and Napier (from $648 return). You can also book by calling Air New Zealand (0800 737 000, 03-363 0600). The flight takes two hours and it’s wise to book well ahead as seats are limited.
