Lonely Planet review
Opotiki's excellent museum offers a chance to learn much about the rich history of the area. Run by volunteers, the museum has interesting heritage displays including Maori taonga, militaria, recreated shopfronts (a barber, carpenter, printer...), and agricultural items including tractors and a horse-drawn wagon. Admission to the Shalfoon & Francis Museum is included in the ticket price.
